The problem with mid range multifunction printers like the new Stylus SX405 hasn’t been there performance but their running costs. Like other MFP’s in this category the SX405 is very reasonably price at under £60 but a replacement set printer ink cartridges cost £30. The Epson SX405 ink cartridges are made up of four individual Epson ink cartridges which works out to be economical in terms of not wasting ink when only one colour has run out but the cost per cartridge is still to high. Fortunately there is a cheaper alternative to the genuine Epson ink cartridges and they are compatible ink cartridges which costs half as much as the originals but still print the same amount of pages with a quality that is difficult to tell apart from the genuine products. With the availability of compatible cartridges makes the Stylus SX405 an excellent value for money device because there is nothing lacking in it performance capabilities and it offers a good array of functions from scanner to photo copying and printing of course. The SX405’s build quality is also good and a vast improvement of previous Epson models although the noise operation of the paper feed still hasn’t been addressed from previous a model which is a shame but not a huge problem. The SX405 is a great all-round device but it will cost a bit to run on genuine Epson ink cartridges.

In regards to the second trend, the rapid growth of technology. There are many causes for this, the major one being the usage of mass collaboration. Did you know that Wikipedia recently had its 10 millionth article posted? They do not have employees doing those posts. Those post are done only by volunteer editors. Do you know how many people have created Myspace, Facebook, and hundreds of other websites into what they are today? Hundreds of Millions. If you are on the internet, you have most likely taken part in this mass collaboration consciously or not.
Mass collaboration is happening not only on the internet, it is happening among regular companies as well. Boeing, BMW, and PG&E are only a few companies utilizing the powers of the masses. As this technology grows ever stronger, knowledge will excel, and those utilizing these mass collaborative technologies will see quick success. This trend is backed by freedom of choice and true winning ways of doing business. Companies utilizing these means of doing business are opening their doors, and succeeding at dramatic rates compared to being closed and only relying on internal networks.
You can take advantage of today’s remarkable technology and mass collaboration in multiple ways for example, you can take part in social networks, in social forums, and through creating your own small business groups to help everyone succeed faster. We live in a WE world, not a ME world. The internet has put us in a place where we can be in touch with almost anyone at any time. Because of the rapid pace of innovation, technology is improving faster than most people can handle. There is no reason to let this hold you back from learning.
The third trend is a floundering US economy. Will it turn? I have hope, as do many others.
Would you invest your life savings on hope? Your retirement? Your dreams? Would you bet your entire future on that 4 letter word. I will not, and I recommend that you take the action required to learn the skills you need to push through and become self sufficient, and non reliant on outside sources for your future. You have to in a sense learn to become your own bank. The currently failing economy got many sparks from the falling housing and mortgage market, as well as continual sparks from layoffs and downsizing of multiple large companies. There are tons of ways to get ahead out there, and due to all the positive trends previously discussed the opportunities are endless.
Network marketing is one great way to get ahead, if the sustained time and effort is put forth, success will be achieved. With all of the trends above in mind, a network marketing business makes a lot of sense.
In closing, it is important to note that these 3 massive trends are not separate from one another. The rising powers and capabilities of the world are exponentially increased with the fast paced innovations in technology, which are all rapidly increased by the powers of mass collaboration. THE BEGINNING OF TIME…
I slip him on my wrist. He blinks his eyes open and the current time is flicking proudly from his face. He seems to have a little Mona Lisa smile on the edges of his squared off lips. I can see his breath and cadence are comfortingly regular and he seems to sit a little deeper in his Indigo glow bed. He slips nicely onto my wrist and I’m glad I’m getting used to him. I thank the checkout guy and bow my head with reverence for his Technological prowess. Humbled by the entire ordeal I silently vow to smile more brightly and with more authenticity for the next technologically advanced checkout guy I meet.

An awkward silence hangs in the air between us. I nervously collect the 8 foot rice paper and make a ridiculous attempt to restore it back into its original finger football, triangle form. It ends up looking like an origami nightmare and I shove it into my purse. I hurry to the door as I catch the image of its crumpled body peeking out from my purse. Its wrinkled head seems to plead for restoration.

TIME FOR RENEWAL…
The paper guy is a mangled mess- all legs and hands sticking out at odd angles from his crumpled, battered body. The sting of inadequacy percolates up from somewhere deep inside me. Weirdly, I start thinking about paper Mache casts and how one could mend little broken paper bones. I remember his perfect triangular body and think of ways I could heal him. I wonder if yoga can help with the folding, if only I could find a soft, fluid paper-only yoga class that was gentle and kind enough for a trauma survivor.

On my way to the car I tuck the disorganized jumbled paper a little deeper into my bag so he won’t get cold. As I drive home, I ruminate on my dilemma: can eight-foot rice paper ever really return to its innocent babyhood of finger football games? I wonder: will he hold fond memories of how he fit so snugly into the recessed plastic triangle bed of his brothers watch box or be forever resentful for the way in which we failed him?

TIME TO GO HOME…
When I get home I turn on the desktop computer as the familiar whir of his fan and engine rouse him up from his evening nap. The big guy deepens his breath, stretches and yawns and blinks his face awake into a bluish glow. The Google screen appears from behind the curtain. The empty Google search box seems so empty and alone, all white and rectangular. It winks at me, pleadingly for conversation. His digital arms reach out for a relationship of some kind. I tilt my ear closer into the lonely white rectangle and sure enough I hear his tinny, rectangular voice call out to his little marching letter friends who wait patiently on the keyboard. In alien language, he asks them to line up in an orderly fashion along his belly so he will feel full and purposeful again.

A puff of air blows past my lips as I poise my hands over the keyboard. The letters hold their breaths for the anticipated reunion. I pause for half a second and type “Origami Experts”. The letters dutifully tumble into his white belly. He seems to expand with the arrival of his friends. I smile and secretly roll my eyes.

Modern life is full of electronic gadgets. Cell phones, digital cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, computers, laptops, monitors and more are common in all modern households. These modern electronic devices provide entertainment and help us in many ways. The problem with them is that they wear out or become obsolete, and then we are faced with the challenge of how to dispose of them.

Simply throwing electronic devices in the trash may be 1 option, but it is an option with a significant environmental impact. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over 200 million tons of electronic waste (e-waste) ends up in landfills every year. The problem with this is that many consumer electronic items contain harmful materials such as lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium and more. These materials can pollute the land, water, and air. In fact, according to Earth 911, over 70% of toxic waste found in landfills comes from e-waste.

Some items, such as computers and computer monitors, are banned from landfills and curbside trash pickup. In some states and municipalities, it is illegal to simply throw away such items. So the challenge is twofold, how to dispose of properly to comply with applicable laws, or how to dispose of properly because it is the environmentally responsible thing to do.

Most people are familiar with the recycling of cans, glass, paper, and plastic. They either take it to designated recycling centers at their landfill, or transfer station, or they are picked up through curbside recycling efforts. When it comes to recycling our electronic gadgets, the task becomes significantly more difficult. Unlike cans, paper, plastic, and glass, there is typically not curbside recycling for electronic devices. You also typically cannot simply take such items and leave them at the landfill or transfer station. Thus, recycling our gadgets requires some thought and effort. If reuse through donation is not an option there are numerous programs for recycling unwanted electronic items. Many municipalities will have special days at their landfill or transfer station where these items will be accepted for recycling. There may be a fee associated with these programs.

In addition, many major manufacturers of common electronic items will accept them for recycling, including Acer, Apple, Dell, Epson, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo/IBM, Panasonic, Sony, and Toshiba. Many major retailers also have recycling programs, including Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, and Staples.

For cellular phones, many cell phone manufacturers, and all of the major wireless companies provide recycling programs for cell phones. Most of the programs will accept anyone’s cell phones for recycling.

A Word About Recycling Batteries

General purpose and alkaline batteries are not considered to be hazardous waste by the US Government. These items may be disposed of with normal household waste except in California where non-households must dispose of them in accordance with the California Universal Waste Rules. Recycling programs for general purpose and alkaline batteries are rare.
